Mayfield is an interesting one because it’s genuinely mixed. Original workers’ cottages from the early 1900s sit alongside post-war fibros and newer townhouses on the BHP former-industrial land.
The older Mayfield housing stock is similar to Hamilton, expect a mix of materials and surprises. The newer development areas (mostly post-2000) have full copper and PEX, properly designed.
One thing worth knowing about Mayfield specifically: the water mains in some streets were upgraded in the 90s but plenty of property service lines (from main to meter) weren’t. Your house might have new pipes inside and old galv from the property boundary to the house.
Mayfield property line leaks are the sneaky ones. Bill goes up, no obvious leak in the house, meter still spinning. Nine times out of ten it’s the old galv service line in the front yard.
